On March 22, 2018, during the annual International Health, Racquet and Sports-club Association (IHRSA), women from all walks of the fitness industry gathered, in downtown San Diego to celebrate the premier live event of the Women in Fitness Association (WIFA).
WIFA honored six founding mothers of the industry leading up to the event and presented the women with a special award during the private reception. Founding mothers included industry icons Judi Sheppard Missett, Joy Prouty, Candice Copeland Brooks, Linda Shelton, Lynne Brick and Molly Fox. In addition to the founding mothers, we told the stories of 40 plus additional women and their impact on the fitness industry, the intention is to tell their untold stories
The theme of honoring women who 'birthed' an industry, the creators who pioneered educational development, programming, and teaching skills to grow the industry carried over to the WIFA sponsors that came together to make the event possible, including many women-led companies and innovators such as GroupEx PRO, Drishti Beats, Matrix, Midtown Health, Mo Hagan, Piloxing, Precor, and SCW Fitness.
WIFA founder and CEO Lindsey Rainwater, says that WIFA has seen a substantial spike in memberships surrounding the event saying, “I am delighted by the turn out we had at the event! It was such an honor to get to celebrate the women in fitness! I am humbled by the outpour of support and collaboration potential, this is only the beginning!”
All Attendees were gifted with sponsor goodie bags and members were treated with WIFA branded gifts.
WIFA debuted in May 2017 and was founded to create a place for women to gather in community with one another. The organization has grown to over 125 members with new members joining daily.
The next WIFA event will be in Mid April, check the website for details. To learn more or to join WIFA visit www.womeninfitness.org
The WIFA goal is to create a culture where women entering the industry can obtain mentorship and seasoned veterans can impact their peers and encourage them to take on more leadership roles. WIFA offers quarterly virtual meetings, annual live events and “crowdsource” topics so everyone involved can contribute. WIFA open for membership.
